Yue Ya Wan

Being tens of thousand of miles away from my housemates, one of the last things I would expect is to hear the song they asked me to learn being crooned over a disc seller's sound system.

But then, listening to it unexpectedly is amusing, methinks... ^__^

Today, on her way to work, my sister realised she forgot to bring her mobile phones (after yelling at me not to forget to bring mine before leaving home.) Phew... talk about "do as I do and not as I say", this is probably today's most clear-cut example of the principle put into practice. It's not exactly limb-consuming, but the inconvenience of swapping one's mobile phone is similar to having to swap one's bag with another: having to get through the day with somebody else's indispensables and without yours. People have different priorities, and I'm already missing my mobile phone's media capabilities... within an hour.

I guess that means I'd have to burn CDs if I want to listen to music in car.

I fervently refused to own my first handset under the pretext of 'not wanting to be on call'.
...so how did we survive anyway before the advent of mobile phones?

Ah, this is just what I was thinking about when in comes to the indispensability of the Internet, CD players, private cars and high-powered hairdryers...

(I used to listen to the radio, got cycled to and from school, send snail mails to pen pals and dry my hair under the sun... before.)

Oh well, have a good day! :))

P.S. condolences and confusion for the passing away of Benazir Bhutto - there is something fishy, but whoever did the deeds (internal power play? Benazir herself? terrorists?) managed to reduce the government's credibility to the public.

(30/32 update)

Seventeen hours on...

Bleeding has stopped, anaestheses wore off much quicker than anticipated (could it be due to drinking or reduced morphine dosage?), slept for nearly half a day, I don't stink as bad as expected, and... I ate nice, spicy, rich foods. The pain has subsided, too.

...which means today is a normal day. Hooray! ^o^

P.S. there's slight bleeding when brushing teeth and un-boiled water is still off-limits, but everything else is fine.

(30/32)

An hour ago, I walked out of a dentist's room with one less wisdom tooth in my mouth.
(And a bloody gum to take care of.)

Since I was little, I've never shirked away from going to the dentist. I quite enjoy going, to be honest, as there were so many books and magazines I could read whilst waiting for my turn (or my mom's turn). The only thing I really despise is having one's [wisdom] tooth/teeth taken out.

Now, why do I dislike having my tooth taken out?
- it grew out alright, although it was essentially a root canal maker-in-breeding
- my teeth, despite their small sizes, possesses what is collectively known by Indonesian dentists as gigi orang batak - grippy roots. This necessitates extra elbow grease (and resulting pain) upon extraction.
- the throbbing sensation on the operation site, sign of blood pumping and leaking through the stitches (big eeek factor.)
- temporary facial paralysis... I can't smile.
- I smell like anaesthesic, which is not exactly my favourite fragrance
- no nice-tasting food for the next couple of days D;

Anyway, I'm quite glad I can still think straight and type out this post. I'll let you know how I fare in the next 24 hours. In the meantime, have a good time folks! ^__^

(define 'home')

Hi people out there!

This is to let you know I'm back home... wherever 'home' is. I'll be around for approximately four hectic weeks before going back to London.

Small bits of update about life:
- London flat is somewhat deserted as three out of five head for the Far East
- not happy with how I handled my project last term
- not too happy either to have my scissors and awl confiscated by airport security - yes, they are sharp... and so does everyone wears clothes (doh.) Getting new fabric scissors in the near future.
- I find my bedroom to be unusually comfortable and roomy
- traffic in Jakarta is still, well... as per usual. :))

Alright then, have a good day folks! ^__^
